PHPBB3 Gold is out.

Will we be getting the upgrade package on Fantastico? Or will it be a manual thing?

Just did not have the patience!
I set up a PHPBB3 folder and did the install. Very good wizard, though you need to set up the database. Once complete you get rid of the install and you are ready to roll. Copy the old Db across and it is fullydone (bar any new tweaks). Then just rename the old forum and give the new forum the original name. Even upgrading from V2 to V3 gives you a clean install.
There is quite a lot in V3 and it takes a bit of time to work round the ACP.
There is no create/edit for the themes like on V2 so down to hand coding. Apparently, if you do edit the templates then you need to REFRESH via the ACP to see it all.
Looks good so far.

We don't maintain Fantastico, we only subscribe to it in cPanel udate. So, whenever they(cPanel) decide to include it in the stable build of cPanel update, we'll have it available.
When that happens, on the other hand, is a mystery.

I tried on of the RCs and it did look good.
Only problem for me is Smartor's album is a no go for PHPBB3. There is a replacement in the works.
Smartor's site went down in August and he's been MIA ever since.

As a system for quick starts Fantastico is fine. It makes it very simple to install items without too much thought. This means you can quickly install something, test it out and quickly uninstall if you do not like it. However, once one gets past the beginner stage then there is nothing to stop them hand installing.
You would think the obvious website for Fantastico would be http://www.fantastico.com/ but that is something else!
Fantastico is now Fantastico De-luxe.
