phpbb is cool, and vbulletin is superb
Invision Powerboard!
The forum software is rock stable, and tons of features! And has awesome resources for add-ons!
If you want a free one, MyBB.
if we are not stick to free things, then we have combat btw VB and IBP
one must choose btw them after their requirement analysis .
see what mod's and hacks are present in the given scripts.
phpBB gets my vote.
Personally I would highly recommend http://www.simplemachines.org/ SMF. It looks a lot like VB and is free and quickly growing in terms of numbers.
punbb!
I totally forgot about them. This was the first forum software that got me to where I am on the web
Very lightweight forum software!

phpbb for sure![]()
phpBB is the most supported forum software.
it has a very stable platform as long as you DONT ever use a Fantastico Install package as they often are not the latest release and can be harder to upgrade.
Hundreds of add-ons and the fastest support ever on phpbb.com
I really like phpbb... but for a full site check out SMF and TinyPortal. Super easy administration system and rock solid software.

As far as I know vulnerabilities are being found in phpBB frequently. I think something like IPB will be more secure.
indeed phpbb is inclined to vulnerability. they are found at times.
All software is subject to vulnerabilities *rolls eyes*
I can tell you how to hack into every forum software on the market pretty much. Havent found a program that is uncrackable.
The difference is the support, an how fast the breaches are FIXED.
phpBB fix all major issues very quickly, which is why they update so often. Most of those are to fix any security hole as quickly as it is found.
They find and fix more issues that most other software simply because more people use phpBB than any other forum software.
Try getting support for vBulletin, then try getting support for phpBB... I think you will find a marked difference and vBulletin has the 2nd best support system.........
I use Dragonfly CMS for a couple of my sites and it integrates phpBB and Coppermine. It's also very secure from bots.
