Avoid at all costs! I've wasted most of the morning fighting it so far, and it still crashes like crazy.
Usually by the beta releases Microsoft has got things stable. But I am sorely disappointed with this.

The latest version of Opera is excellent! Still the fastest browser, and the one that invented browser tabs and the convenient Speed Dial page.
I'll confess to being an Internet Explorer fan. I use Firefox too and it's decent, but I've never enjoyed using it like I do IE.
I have managed to fix IE 8 somewhat and this is my first post using it. There are still some major javascript display problems though, include the drop downs on our site, our helpdesk, etc.
I use IE a lot as well, primarily because so many clients and friends use it. When they call me for help, it's easier if I'm familiar with what they use. Otherwise, I love Opera. It's much faster than either IE or Firefox, and much less bloated than Firefox.
Go Firefox. It would never let you down. I have been using it for quite some time now and its very stable. Actually there are a few websites out there that would display content only if you have FF for example media streaming.
n ya firefox 3 is good,
better than 2 because , 2 hangs alot, but 3 crashes
i mean, its better to terminate than hanging .....
ff has restore session feature which is the best
apart that, it ignores some css errors, so it makes sites bful
previously i was using opera, i switched to ff bcoz of lack of addons..
now if things r better, i wud give a try...
n ya 1 bad thing about firefox is...
it consumes lots of memory.
IE8 also has a restore session feature. I am currently using it in IE7 emulation mode and it seems good so far. No crashes after initial teething problems.
The upgrade from FF2 to FF3 kind of let me down to be honest. Upgraded my laptop running windows a while ago and I am still getting used to the changes. I haven't upgraded my BSD desktop yet to FF3, though I might soon just to see if the memory issues are resolved. I've read conflicting reports on that.
Just give me a browser that I can use for a full day without it crashing, or without having to restart the browser to free up memory!

Wayne, try Opera. Seriously. It uses much less resources than FF, is stable and is still the fastest browsering at rendering web pages.
I know I'm late to post but anyway...
One of my friends downloaded IE8 a few months ago and actually said it was good (he's a Firefox lover too)! He didn't complain about any problems and he said fixed positions work!!!
IE8 is still in the good books here. There is a little funkiness with some Javascript but other than that, its been fine.
I've been using Opera on and off with pretty good results, thanks for pushing me Alan.FF3 is still a memory hog, IE8 does seem ok... I just like to have some uniformity between operating systems since I'm personally often using one or the other.

Yeah, I like many of FF's features but it eats a lot of system resources. It's way too bloated and slow. When I want an alternative to IE, such as for CSS testing or for faster browsing, I use Opera.
FF3 is god aweful, it's full of issues.
I have always found IE's implementation of tabs and such to be very clumsy, this includes the strange menu configuration etc. It lacks a good infrastructure for add ons, is full of security holes, and eats up memory. Firefox consumes memory, of course, but any web browser will.

IE8, of course uses the typical caching technique which leads to the usual security problems, and gives it some speed boost, but using a plugin like fasterfox can take care of that for FF as well.
Of course, if you like the way IE works, you can make FF act exactly like it, down to calling bookmarks favorites and making it appear exactly as IE7. There are plugins for that.

Personally, though, I find IE to be a rather horrid example of UI design, and am much happier with my plugin-enhanced Firefox, which may look nothing at all like the original.
