GSiteCrawler is a good tool to generate XML sitemap for Google, and also the Yahoo sitemap format. It lets you configure preferences for what you want to index, what not to follow, and how to treat errors.

    Default Sitemaps

Personally I have never once messed with making a sitemap because practically every page I have ever created gets indexed into Google, Yahoo and MSN. For me I feel its more trouble than its worth.

But I would add if you have any URL's with a ton of complicated parameters in the string that might confuse poor old GoogleBot then a sitemap would be a great idea.

The KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, system is best for site navigation so these bots don't get confused or worse, caught up in a spider trap.

Creating an XML sitemap for Google does not complicate things. It provides Google with a simple consistent format to index your site. The XML sitemap is not about navigation, it's about giving Google good information.

If your sites are small, then perhaps it doesn't matter. I have a site with 500 pages and growing, and a current XML sitemap keeps Google up to date on site changes and ensures accurate searching both for Google users and for our site visitors who use our embedded Google Custom Search Engine.

xml-sitemaps is a good one, I use that too. I didn't know there was a limit. But then again I've never managed a site with more than 500 pages. I'd like to hear of others.

All of my sites (no more than 30 pages for my largest) automatically get indexed by google, too. Except for recently. Within the past 2 weeks or so, they don't seem to be auto indexing, which is very perplexing to me...i've been doing everything the same, what's the delay?

So, i did create a site map with xml-sitemaps, and submitted to Google for one of my sites that was having problem getting indexed.

Here's the problem i see with xml-sitemaps - for the "priority" setting, when creating the site map, they say "We have automatic priority calculation implemented for online sitemap generator now! " so you can't edit that.

Then, when submitting to Google, i get a warning in saying

All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority.
All the URLs in your Sitemap are set to the same priority (not the default priority). Priority indicates the importance of a particular URL relative to other URLs on your site, and doesn't impact your site's performance in search results. If all URLs have the same priority, Google can't tell which are more important.

So, i think i have to try another sitemap generator...or figure out a way to mark the pages priority.

    anyone else have this problem?
