It is up and running on a few servers. The lead developer is currently on vacation for a couple of weeks, and it will launch when he is back.

Is there something specific that you are warning about? Such as security or stability?

Fantastico scripts are sometimes not the latest. It is often better to install the application yourself, rather than to use Fantastico.

Security should be okay with Fantastico installs. Usability is the usual problem with them.

I am most familiar with phpBB. The Fantastico installs use different database settings than when you install phpBB yourself with the package available at phpbb.com. The different database settings do cause problems in a lot of instances. For this reason, phpbb.com does not recommend Fantistico installs, or any one-click installs provided by your host. I have also seen at the ZenCart support forums that Fantistico installs are not recommended.

Updating can also be a problem through Fantastico. When Fantastico does an update, all your files are replaced. If you have done any modifications to the files, all your changes will be lost and you have to redo them.

I have been running a server for 3 years now , yes most people think they may be unsafe installs but if you make sure you have an updated version of what you are installing there is no problem , and as far as updating I have never lost anything maybe I am missing something here , more info??

You are correct in that if you install the latest version, there are no security problems, but there are some hosts that are lax in updating their Fantastico installs so you are not always installing the latest version. This is why it is best to install the application with the latest version available from the developers of the application.

If you modify a file and then do an update with Fantastico, you will lose the modification you made, because Fantastico replaces the file with no regard to any changes you may have made.

There is a reason you have run into no problems Sir... it's because you did everything CORRECTLY. Congrats, haha.

It's being rolled out on all our servers. Which server are you on? I'll get it installed...

I recently used AppZebra to install Joomla 1.5 and it was very easy to use. Pretty much identical to Fantastico as far as the install part goes.

    Default no scripts installed?

I just noticed the AppZebra icon in my control panel, but there are no scripts installed. Do we have to request which ones we want installed or is this still being rolled out?

There should be the list of scripts already.

If you click the AppZebra icon on main page within cPanel you will then see a list of categories on the left side on the next web page. Clicking one of them categories will expose specific scripts you can install. Clicking on a script will bring up a dialog top right part of the web page where you can easily install the script.

If you don't see any scripts to install along the left side after clicking on a category then will need to contact support for more help with this matter.
