Default Like Fantastico? You'll love this...

    Hello All,

We've been working dilligently for months creating our own competitor to Fantastico.

Fantastico allows you to install scripts using a 1 click install.

Our application, codenamed AppZebra, offers all the Fantastico scripts and more via a 1 click install. It also allows you to upgrade, backup and rollback any scripts installed.

We're just in Alpha testing now... but of course WHB clients will be the first to get to test this out

Any scripts you'd like us to build a 1 click installer for? Just let us know here and we'll look at including it...

Sounds great! My main concern is being able to keep up with all the updates to supported packages.

Some things I notice that aren't in fantastico that many use:
    roundcube (email client)
    bugzilla (bug tracking)
wordpress mu (multi-user version of wordpress)

things I'd like to see that would be more difficult to implement:
    open-xchange (open source exchange server)
subversion (one-click install for setting up a subversion repo)

Are you planning on making AppZebra open source so that the community may contribute install modules/scripts to it?

    We'll look into those products.

AppZebra will be a commercial product and be sold in the market place for similar prices to Fantastico.

Correct. All WHB customers will get it free and will get to test it starting next week.

Are you using subversion often now?
I'm curious what features would make a subversion integration ideal for you as a developer. Just a single repository per installation, or would you be looking for things like user/group control over multiple repositories, etc.

I've never used Fantastico. Is it really possible to keep a complex suite of software like Drupal updated automatically???

If so, let's add vBulletin and CMSMS. I really hate it when all those files have to be backed up and edited and mods checked to update things every couple months.

We discussed vBulletin with Jelsoft last year. It isn't something we can do immediately, we need to get them to agree to license it in a different way to be able to do this.

As long as we have the ability to add/remove subversion users and specify their permissions (read/write), this would be a wonderful and usable addition.
Though I haven't tried it, you may want to take a look at implementing something like http://svnmanager.sourceforge.net/

Mainly a single repository with easy management via drupal modules reliant on subversion. Basically a good CVS/data trade system instead of relying on people to email files. Our dev team works remotely throughout several countries, so we rely on our digital distribution heavily.

It would be pretty cool if I could set up a Debian/Ubuntu repository and RPM repository. I think you'd get a decent amount of business from software devs if it were that easy to use your hosting to distribute the application.
