Question Webmail / POP email access bandwidth?

Hi, I would like to know if the bandwidth used by webmail and pop are deducted also on my alloted bandwidth per month?

I'm a bit confused because a lot of providers are offering unlimited webmail/pop access without affecting the alloted data transfer per month. I know the space used to store the emails are deducted from the disk space.

Yes, these are deducted from your total bandwidth. With the amount of bandwidth that we offer and the minimal amount of bandwidth that emails consume though, I wouldn't be too worried.

    Thanks for the reply.

BUT, how come it is deducted?

A lot of other providers, including resellers are not including these. True, that it's minimal amount but what if there are attachments? Exchanging emails with the same attachment for the sake of discussion is normal on business communications and these will take up bandwidth.

Before my plan here at WHB, I used to be hosted by a reseller www.plainip.com and they offer unlimited webmail/pop access. Well, actually my other domain is still hosted by them though I started moving some to my hosting here at WHB.

I'm going on the assumption that your previous host didn't deduct this from your limits due to the extremely low bandwidth quota they assign accounts, 4GB of bandwidth on their largest account. In this case, deducting POP and webmail access could offset your bandwidth usage significantly.

It seems understandable to offer such low quotas in the Philippines, as bandwidth, power, and hardware is probably much more expensive there. In the US, where all of our servers are hosted, bandwidth, power, and hardware are much cheaper, which allows us to offer higher quotas.

I can understand not wanting to go over your quota, but I can assure you this is not an issue with our current quotas.

    Thanks for the reply Jef.

What you pointed out may be true. Anyways, I've asked this because I'll be hosting a new website and based on our discussion, they might use a bigger bandwidth and most of it may be email. I'm alloting a big bandwidth though. Most probably next month, I'll be upgrading also my reseller plan on WHB.

Happy New Year to all at WHB and more power.

    Regards.

    Question

I'm actually quite worried about the bandwith at WHB at the reseller accounts. Budget account has an extreme bandwith, but for instance the smallest reseller has a MUCH lower bandwith and server space compared to a budget account, which is cheaper. Specifically 10 GB space and 100 GB bandwith doesn't seem a lot for 20 websites. If each hosted website has just 10 email accounts that's 200 email accounts, and my quote is reached by giving each person just 50 MB max on their mailboxes. That sounds harsh. Also the bandwith per website being hence only 5 GB is right on the limit even for very small websites from my previous experience.

The higher end packages come with tons of disk space and bandwidth. I think a fully fledged reseller account with 100/1000GB for only $5 per month is excellent value.
