Post Server specs for silver web hosting plan

    hello,

Your write up for hosting plans sound great. You really offer a lot of services for such a low price.

checked your forums on web hosting discussions and found some complaints. Some of them are results of security prevention measures, but other are for downtime.

Could you please tell me what type of server you put your clients account on. The specs of the server would really be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Keithb!

I've been with WHB for a number of years now. So, I can't see all the server specs, but it's some sort of 4 processor or quad-core i686 machine. It's using about 35% of its memory right now, which is well within a reasonable limit. I've not had any significant downtime issues in over a year. Sure, some random slow-downs from time to time, but nothing really bothersome. Planet, my server, is one of the older ones, and is running Linux with kernel 2.6.24.4.

I sent a friend of mine a link to a file, and he downloaded it telling me how nice it was that we were on an internal network (the university's), and he could download right from my computer next door and achieve 10 megabytes per second. (112 megabyte video file in about 10 seconds.) I then told him that he had actually just downloaded it from my WHB hosting.

I have found WHB's support to be excellent. They take a lot of pride in their hosting services, and they actually listen to what people say. That's why people can post here; they watch the forums, and you'll see- people complain, and they answer. Not the "It can't be us!" bull, but actually taking notice, explaining things, and fixing things. I think, like me, a lot of people use the forum as a more relaxed way of solving a problem than submitting a ticket, especially when you would like to really understand what's going on. They take security seriously, and even if it's annoying sometimes, it benefits everyone in the long run. I hate spam and hackers, like most website owners do, I think; so I definitely won't criticize anything WHB does to make dealing with that less of a hassle for everyone!

In short, I really like WHB. I've used NetworkSolutions *vomits*, GoDaddy *shrugs*, and dealt with other web hosts. WHB is my favorite by far. I remember one day I had a problem with a particular host. They had an 800 number to call, and I had a strange issue I had to solve with WHB as well. I submitted a support ticket to WHB, and called the 800 number. You can guess which problem was fixed fixed first, but it's not what you'd expect. WHB had me squared away while I was still on the phone with the other place, and my problem with WHB was the more complicated one too!

Good luck, I hope this helps some.

    Daniel,

Thank you for such kind words. That's an excellent review. We do have issues, any web host that tells you they do not are lying.... computers do go wrong! But we always work to fix the source and inform what/why/how/when etc.

    Keith,

    In answer to your question:

All new servers deployed are 8 CPU Xeon 5405s with 8GB of RAM and RAID1 1TB perpendicular drives. We're just about to switch to 12GB RAM base too.

Older severs are generally dual processor dual core Opteron 285s (total 4 cores) so by no means slow. These have 4GB of RAM.
Our billing platform has a pool of servers to choose which to deploy the account on; with chun, some cancellations etc spaces do become available on the older servers. So your account may be provisioned on one of these but performance will still be on par with the Xeon servers we deploy.
