Thumbs up Joomla 1.5 stable in Fantastico?

I was looking for information as to when Joomla 1.5 would be available in Fantastico and came across this topic in their forums:

    Latest release issues Joomla 1.5

    http://www.netenberg.com/forum/index.php?topic=6437.0

It looks as though Joomla 1.5 should now be available in Fantastico, although it still shows up as 1.0.15. Is there some way for WHB to upgrade Fantastico to show this new option? I have been trying to do a manual install of Joomla 1.5.1 and have been having bad luck. I would like to see if an install from Fantastico fixes the problems I have encountered.

Edit: I got this reply after making a WHB help desk ticket:
    Dear Thomas,

Unfortunately, Fantastico has been installed with cpanel and it will be updated with cpanel too. We have no information when joomla will be updated to ver. 1.5.

    I uploaded Joomla 1.5.2 yesterday.

Personally I don't like having something to do it for me, ie fantastico or any script installer.

I know that for many years, the best advice was not to use the automated script installers in cPanel. They were often outdated, and sometimes did not install things in an ideal manner. It was always recommended to download the package you want from the developer or open source site, and install it yourself.

Joomla 1.5 has been released as a production version! You can grab the new version from joomla.org and install it yourself to check it out. You can also find information about how to upgrade to the stable version from a RC version.

1.6 is in the works now and will be out very soon. Also theres been a new Template builder released for 1.5.

I would personally *not* wait on fantastico (such scripts are slow to update) and upgrade it manually and that too as soon as possible.

Download the latest release and follow these install instructions.

    http://help.joomla.org/content/category/15/99/132/

It is daunting to do a manual install if you haven't done one before but most are heavily scripted and reasonably documented. Just read first and generally you won't go wrong.

    Have a go and enjoy.

    Cheers,
    Aaron
