Great point,I like this idea,I would think that would be obvious to the people providing support.![]()

Even Matt agreed, so let's get this done. There have been many posts lately which could have been dealt with more clearly or more quickly if we had known what server the member was on (or at least whether he/she had shared or reseller hosting).
Bump.
Guys, who is responsible for doing this? Matt agreed, so let's get it done.![]()
I am not WHB staff and I am not paid.
I provide help in these forums on my own time.
This thread is almost three years old, and had no responses for over a year. Clearly this would be a huge job to implement and keep current, so as good an idea as it is, it's just not going to happen.
We have an upgrade to vB4 pending. Infact, we've tried a couple of times but due to quirks with VBSEO we've not been able to do it yet.
When we've done this, I think we'll have an option for hosting type, but not the server on which you're hosted. This is just for additional security reasons (obscurity).

Oh, so it may or may not be accurate - just leave it optional and up to the user. Yes, I suppose that might work. But then, there's nothing stopping them now from putting that info in their sig.
Yes, users could put it into their sig. But honestly what information does it really give you. Just because I may have an old-school bronze hosting package with one or two domains, does that make me less knowledgeable than someone who has a dedicated server with several? Not necessarily. Though it might bias that way when I respond to posts.
A sticky to remind people to post basic information with their problem, like Domain, Kernel, Apache, mySQL, PHP, CMS, possibly IDE, and such would make more sense.
But wait.... with a little slight of code.....

It would be annoying to have to re-enter your password on every posting. Hehe, but that would surely make people think more clearly, and double-check before they posted random thoughts!)
