Here's something a little different... we'd like your suggestions on marketing. Our in-house marketing think tanks are always looking for ideas, but we figured as clients of ours, you'd have some good ideas on how we can reach like minded people?

If you have ideas, suggestions, or how you'd like to see WHB market/advertise, then please go ahead and post them. The idea we like best will win some yet-to-be-determined prize.

I see a lot of sites now using Google Ads or Yahoo Ads. Maybe that would be a start?

Unless, you are already doing that, which would make sense.

My company does marketing. My advice is to concentrate on keeping all your current customers very happy. Word-of-mouth is better than a full page in the Journal. Just keep asking people here what more you could do for them. It will pay back.

Also, don't try to grow too quickly. I just started using you guys and have been really happy with the service. A big marketing push could cause more problems than successes.

This is definitely a core value to WHB. Customer satisfaction is top of our list and we try extremely hard to go the extra mile to please.

I'd like to second Stephen on that. Support is key to building a client base. I've had good service overall - phone support especially. Jef does a great job getting issues resolved. You might work on keeping you chat support up more often, though, as that seems to be weak point.

Now, that's more of a suggestions post. Here's the marketing idea:

Word of mouth is definitely your best option. I have referred several people to you, one of which is a reseller that will be hosting 60+ domains by the end of this month. So, encourage people to refer WHB to others: offer a free 3 month extension to any current client who refers a shared hosting customer to you, 6 months for referring a reseller customer, and 9 for a dedicated hosting customer.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised if you use this method to turn every satisfied customer into your sales rep.

You want me to be honest Matt, I am a new customer here and this 5 free domains attracted me here but I felt cheated when I found out later that I had to wait one month for each new domain. Sure it's in the TOS but no one really thinks that kind of stuff would be in there.

    Hope you value my input.

-Offer some paying banners to be displayed on your present customers websites. Or some kind of reward for bringing you new customers.

We're a victim of our own success with the live support, the demand is huge and we're still hiring more people. There will be 3-4 people online during peak times within a couple of weeks just to answer live support inquiries. One thing to bear in mind is that live support is designed for more simple inquiries, complex ones are best sent via a ticket. We don't really want to have multiple live support issues going on for 45 minutes at a time.

The bonus idea for referrals sounds good. I'll see what we can do.

The page where it says that is being changed so it's clearer. It is not our intention to mislead anyone.

Matt, you guys really should be diligent when notifying the users about update/upgrades. I'm on rs7 and it looks like we've been upgraded to cpanel 11, but there's no notification anywhere. The idea is that if there is anything wonky going on, one can check on the status page and confirm that something is happening.

In fact, there are a couple CP11 threads that make it confusing, because in one, you say that you guys are holding off on the upgrades.

As long as WHB doesn't turn into D****Host, prime example of Stephen's explanation, I will be a very happy customer and continue to freely advertise for WHB on my blog.

I also agree that Google Ads would be a good start.
