    Default Administration issues with Joomla/CB

I did not find the 'New Installation' link until just now. Doh! It certainly looks much simpler using FDL. Anyway, I have already installed Joomla 1.5.9 Full Package the hard way, and the only module I've installed is the CB 1.2 Stable release, following all instructions to the letter. It seems like it's functional, but I am having trouble configuring my site.

What I'm running into is errors while attempting to:

    1) Navigate lists in Community Builder (any list, e.g. Field List, etc.)
Clicking 'Next', 'Prev' or attempting to change the number of items in the list results in errors like:

    Message: Object expected
    Line: 1123
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: http://www.nwbears.com/joomla/admini...task=saveField

    2) Edit a list item through CB List Management
Clicking on 'Add' or 'Remove' on Field List causes:

    Message: Object expected
    Line: 603
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: http://www.nwbears.com/joomla/administrator/index2.php

    3) Create a multi-selection field through CB Field Manager

'Add a Value' adds at most only one item, though it appears to do nothing--no feedback at all. How do I insert the multiple items for a 'Check Box (Multiple)' field type.

I've got a fresh install of Joomla 1.5.9 Full Package, and the only module I've installed is the CB 1.2 Stable release. I've been to the forums on Joomlapolis, but have been unable to find a resolution. Has anyone heard of this sort of problem before? Any ideas? Can a WHB representative help me here?

    Thanks.
    Greg

Have you tried any of the Joomla help sites, or even Google? When I searched for that error message, I found several possible causes for this error.
I am not WHB staff and I am not paid.
I provide help in these forums on my own time.

I've got a forum thread going on Joomlapolis (under 'eewolf' user name), but it's not bearing much fruit, though the guy is trying. I was hoping that WHB might have a clue about my environment that may cause this problem.

I'm getting to the point that if I can't find an answer, I think I'll just start over and use the link in Fantastico Deluxe to install it for me through the WHB CPanel. Maybe there's something that went wrong with my install, even if it appeared to work.

I hope this will be solved immediately.
I understand that admin is doing its best to get around it.

    Dear Graydar,

What we'd rather you do, is to try installing Joomla, available in Fantastico -just for test - to some different folder. If it works fine and matches all your needs, just keep using it.

We don't provide support for 3rd Party scripts, anyway, so this solution looks like the most appropriate one.

    Default Multiple instance concern

Is it safe to install two instances of Joomla on the same server? I am concerned there may be confusion regarding databases, etc. I can completely remove the existing instance first, if that would be safer.

    Thanks.

    Dear Graydar,

It's fine to have two instances of Joomla running on the same server.
However, they should not be resource intensive, either this may lead to the suspension of your account. The actual idea of this offer is, that you install second Joomla temporary - in a test mode, you know. So once you make sure you want to run either this or that instance, you'll remove the unneeded one, so there will be only one instance left.

OK. So I tried installing another instance (in fact I tried it a couple of times), and the problem appears to be limited to the Community Builder module (the Joomla interface works fine). On any of the CB lists, I get this sort of error when I try to modify the number of items to display in the list:
    ____________

    Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; FunWebProducts; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30618; OfficeLiveConnector.1.3; OfficeLivePatch.1.3)
    Timestamp: Mon, 11 May 2009 02:15:32 UTC

    Message: Object expected
    Line: 757
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: http://nwbears.com/test_joomla/admin...task=showField
    ____________

This error was reported when I tried to change the number of list items from 20 to 10 in the CB Field Manager screen. This error seems to be pretty fundamental, and occurs in all the CB admin areas, so I cannot understand why more people do not see it. This leads me to believe that it is my server's environment.

If it would help, I can create a user which you can use so that you can experience this first hand. Maybe playing with it yourself may be helpful.

This is just basic administration setup stuff, and I'm pretty frustrated with it at this point. My primary focus right now is to be able to manage the registered users of our group with some customizeable profiles, and get to a point so that users can register and pay their membership subscriptions online. I've researched alot of different systems and this one seemed like the most flexible and supposedly "reliable" way to go. Eventually, I would also like to build in some other features (integration of event calendars, event registrations, mailing lists, social networking, etc.) which I figured I could do through modules. If you can suggest alternative solutions, I'm all ears.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, that would be very helpful.
Please submit a ticket to our tech dept at https://whbsupport.com, providing the error message, url, username and password so that they could make a careful research

I also just completed a new install of Joomla 1.5.10 with Community Builder 1.2 Stable. However, keep in mind I've been working with Mambo/Joomla for many years now and have run into just about every problem there is. In this particular case I was attempting to migrate my current 1.0 Joomla site to the new 1.5 version and since FDL in Cpanel doesn't support an upgrade to 1.5 I had to start from scratch. Although the migration of data was a little painful I managed to get everything up and running.

Unfortunately, when I loaded the new CB 1.2 stable component, I started having multiple problems within the configuration. Everything from SQL failures to object errors to saved data simply NOT being saved. After looking at every discussion topic I could find I came to the conclusion that I should look at the PHP version. It plainly states that CB 1.2 requires PHP 5 or higher but I figured I'd give it a try with the installed 4.2 from WHB. After 3 days of troubleshooting I decided to change my site over to PHP 5 by adding the new .htaccess file referenced in other threads here. Low and behold this solved ALL of my issues.

I wish I could be more specific regarding the errors and problems but since getting them resolved I've removed those logs. I'm guessing you may have already tried this fix but if not, I highly recommend it. Simply search the board for "upgrade PHP" to see how it's done.

My apologies if you've already tried and are still having issues.

    Good luck!
    Peace!

Everything seems to work fine for me. Minor bugs but can do away with it.
