After the OS reinstall is complete we will be restoring data from account backups.

Is there an ETA for this? I am getting spammed by numerous users in my Hotmail inbox on what is going on. Also, are steps being put into place to better handle outages of this kind in the future?

It will be a couple of hours yet. Accounts are restored alpahbetically so A, B , C etc will be online sooner.

We'll definitely conduct an investigation into this. I have never before had an OS install go bad during the restore though, and I've been in hosting 7 years now.... one of those things you never want to happen

Between this and the problems we had a couple of days ago, I think I've actually had functioning email for 24 of the last 72+ hours. My website has been similarly down. Hard for me to run my business like this guys

Today, 09:15 AM Server reboot / hard disk failure
    now 02:01 AM
    it is only this

more than 17 hours and nothing??????????

    Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server

If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.
    ATTENTION!

If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending an email to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running cPanel, WebHost Manager, and Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group. Please do not send mail about this site or its contents to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group.

    my site is down

Just a little note... (Because I think this may be a hardware issue, unrelated to the drive.)

Install and setup the hard drive from another PC... (If the PC has a bad chip or ram, you will continue to have corrupted installs.)

Like I said, I think that fried Power Supply a month ago, might have done greater damage, or have been caused due to some internal issue placing greater demand on the Power Supply, causing it to fry. (That would explain all these new issues.)

I picked a heck of a time to send out an update to all my paying customers to download an important update to my screenracer product... I know it sounds funny, but that really sucks. I sent out the important tech notice email to all users of screenracer late last night. It gave them instructions and a link to download the patch... This wont boast well with them...

I talked to Matt and he canceled his vacation to attend to this issue, so I know they are doing something about it. For Matt to cancel a vacation, it has to be mighty important!

I feel your pain, I just paid 2,000cr to about 15 IMVU.com members, to host my "Ad-Banner"... They all thought they broke the code I gave them.

(That's only about $30.00, but now I have to go back and let them all know it is running, when that happens.)

If there is one thing I hate more than anything, it is faulty hardware. I have fried a few chips in my days. Mostly due to the poor power regulation in Connecticut, but partly due to pushing hardware to the limits. I was young, stupid, and computers were disposable to me. LOL

I wonder why they don't use RAID and mirror the drives, makes instant hot-swapping a lot more easy to manage. I know we are not all at our limits on drive-space. With drives being around $210.00 for 750GB... It would improve reliability to add one to existing accounts, as a live-mirror, before offering it to new accounts as more space.

One of those could replace ten older ones... Use the older ones as the mirrors, since those are most likely to fail in the future, might as well retire them to limited read and writes. (Set them as uncompressed, to make them safer to restore, or force them as high compression, so the smaller sizes can have a comparatively similar storage consumption.)

Oh... that reminds me, it would be great if there were a link to an online data-backup site. (For our personal website storage of critical information.) Listed in the place where we have the option to backup our site to an external location.

2GB free storage... (Covers me ten fold, at my use.)
    http://mozy.com/home

5GB free storage... (Covers my whole collection on my home computer)
    http://www.xdrive.com/

25GB free storage... (Covers my whole hard-drive on my home computer)
    http://www.mediamax.com/

Would be nice to have that integrated... We setup an account, enter the info of our account into our website c-panel, our data/dirs marked as "Backup", get compressed and slowly served in chunks to the remote location. (Hey, if it frees up some running backup space, and mimics the same compression, only the file transfer becomes an issue. Once a month, using only the remaining bandwidth, if any is left, is a fair call.) Though on-site backup is still the most ideal choice. Unless your site has been locked, from all access.

Personally, I would just like my code and MySQL sent there. Images I keep on my other free servers. (They just don't have actual website names.)

    Ho, hum... (Back to work.)

P.S. Thanks Matt... Sorry to hear that your vacation was spoiled...

Small issue... all my PHP files are trying to download, they are not displaying as processed php pages????

The apache handler is sending them as a "FILE DOWNLOAD" header...

Is the PHP5 not in place yet? My .htaccess is still in-tact. So it seems there is no handler for the handler I have it set for. I am not sure if my code will run on php4. (Might want to check into that, as everyone's code will now be sent as a plain text file for viewing.)

For the time being, I have changed my handler in my .htaccess file from this...

    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php .php4 .php5 .phtml

    to this...
    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php .php4 .php5 .phtml

I just removed the "5" from (x-httpd-php5). (So it is now using php4. Cool, it works, or php is not configured right.)

Please let me know when 5.x is running. (I don't want to use 4 unless I need to.)

It is confirmed, phpinfo() shows "PHP Version 4.4.7", I will file a help ticket, just to be sure they know...
