Default Help with automated email signup

I've been with WHB for a few months now, and very happy so far. I've got my website all set up pretty much the way I want it, and now I'm wondering if there's a way to let users sign up for email accounts automatically. Currently, people have to email me with the requested name, then I have to set up an email account and email them back with instructions for resetting the password and all that. Not really fun. So does anyone know of a script or something that would do this process automatically like you see on most major websites offering email addresses?

While I'm here, if someone could point me in the right direction on getting all my logins on the same page, that'd be terrific. I'm using b2Evolution for my blog and phpbb for my forums, and copper for my pictures. So if you want to leave a comment on all 3, you have to log in 3 different times with 3 different databases. Is there a way to merge all these without a lot of work, or a big package that would take care of all of it? I don't have enough content to worry about right now, so moving everything at this point wouldn't be a huge deal. Thanks!

You're selling e-mail accounts from your shared hosting account?

Not selling, attempting to give away.

    1. You'd better check the ToS and/or ask WHB about this. This may not be acceptable on a shared account.

    2. This would be a very bad plan. You'd have no idea if people were signing up to use your accounts for spamming or virus/worm distribution. You could get the entire server blacklisted. A shared hosting account is no place to allow automated sign-up for free e-mail accounts. Yes, major web sites do this, but they run their own dedicated servers with security designed for this use.

Good point, I had considered some of that, but figured limiting mail box size would circumvent a lot of those problems. But, I'll play it safe and just not do it. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear you won't do it. I would be very UNHAPPY to learn someone was giving away email addresses on a server I shared. Think of the spam our IP address could end up sending out, thus getting our IP banned.

There is enough spamming going on already without making it even easier for the spammers! And BTW, limiting mailbox sizes would do nothing to prevent the amount of outgoing mail.

As a matter of fact, I think my mail server IP here is already blacklisted as I am unable to send to some domains. So now I'm not using a different smtp server to send mail.

How could it? Spammers send outgoing mail; they're not interested in receiving mail.

Stick with the manual process for any "approved" members that you really trust.

Otherwise, in the words of Nike, "Just Don't Do It" It is too big a risk.

    Cheers,

Would email forwarders work for you? There used to be a script that would create forwarders for you, but it doesn't work with cPanel 11. If you're on a server that's still running cPanel 10, try this script:
    http://www.zubrag.com/scripts/cpanel...-forwarder.php

This uses fopen() on URLs, so if you're on a cPAnel 10 server you'll need to enable it in your php.ini.

As your host, we'd prefer you do vet members before giving them an email address (assuming I understand you correctly).
