    Unhappy no external backups

This is very strange that a professional company like webhosting buzz is advising us to restore private backups. It means all the bakckups that webhosting buzz took were on the same hard drive. This cant be called a backup because when the hard drive fails how can they restore backups. Backups should be off site. This is disappointing to note that webhosting buzz doesnt maintain off site backups . Rather it doesnt seem to even have backup on a second hard drive.

    Unhappy

have u taken your own backups on ur own hard drive . If not then i can only offer you consolation because webhosting buzz doeant take your backups . Even if they took they were on the same hard drive that crashed. Now you are at the mercy of webhosting buzz

I'm more then just a bit upset about this. The potential of loosing all that data from multiple databases is bad enough, but now there haven't been any updates and I cannot get a response on my ticket regarding the matter at all.

This never should have happened. Had I known this was how backups were being done, I could have at least done backups on my own to preserve the integrity of my data. But because of the promise of daily backups I was not diligent in this matter. Storing the backed up data on the server that is being backed up defeats the very purpose FOR the backup in the first place.

I want to know how WHB is going to compensate us for the horrific error on their part should our data not be restorable; and if it is what measures they are going to take to make sure this NEVER happens again.

I don't think this is asking too much for a service we were supposed to be getting anyway.

    Direct from the WHB website:

A backup is defined as: a copy or duplicate version, esp. of a file, program, or entire computer system, retained for use in the event that the original is in some way rendered unusable.

Numerous computer experts agree; storing the copy near the original is unwise, since many disasters such as fire, flood and electrical surges are likely to cause damage to the backup at the same time.

Why then, would our data be backed up TO the server that was just backed up?? This makes no sense at all and is very poor planning on the part of WHB.

Man..now I gotta re-create the databases from scratch as don't have a recent enough backup..and I thought they were backing up the stuff off the HD on which the MySQL server is running..

This is quite annoying..I shouldn't have to go out of my way to make a daily backup because WHB isn't doing the right thing..annoying!

We are happy to inform you that we`ve finally managed to retrieve the databases` back-ups from the corrupted HDD.
We have compared old database names list with newer database names list (that was created or restored from backups, which you had provided us with) and have restored the databases that did not exist.

Unfortunately some problems with privileges of old mysql users are still present, so if you can find your old MySQL databases in your cPanel, please check or add MySQL users for it.

If you can't do it itself, feel free to create or update existing ticket at our helpdesk, and we`ll resolve it gladly.
