i use pass protect directories for sites built from scratch all the time, in cPanel. it's a piece of cake, and works like a charm.

now, i have a client using rvsitebuilder, and has published a portion of his site on a directory that he wants pass protected.

so i protected that directory in the same way i would any other site, by using cPanel.

But when i browse to the site, it does not accept the established user/pass i created. and i have to use my task manager to exit my browser or i end up blocking my ip due to too many failed attempts to login. same thing happening with my client. i know the user/pass is correct. but not letting me in for the site.

because it works on all of my other sites, i'm afraid it has something to do with rvsitebuilder sites.

i'm considering blocking access with .htaccess, but that looks kind of intimidating and after days of searching online, i still can't find a tutorial or article that really explains it thoroughtly. it seems like quite an intimitading thing to do.

i talked about it with support, and sent a ticket in, an i am getting the feeling like this is my responsibility, and i can't ask them to modify the .htaccess file for me.

am i crossing boundaries asking support to modify .htaccess for me, or is it my responsibility?

anyone have any advice, or places i can go to learn how to do it myself without screwing it up?

anyone else have problems with pass protect directories through cPanel on sites built in rvsitebuilder?
