Mail seems throttled?
I'm having issues with my mailman stuff, it is sending mail out slowly it seems.
My tech person says that even an email discussion list of less than 100 members means that only 2-3 emails can get sent out per hour.
Is there any way to fix that? Change that? I understand the wish to stop spammers, but it seems legit people are getting punished for what the spammers do.
We have a reseller account because basically we're an org with member chapters and we wanted them to be able to have their own account and interface, which you apparently can't get with VPS.
I would love some input on this.

Hi,
I came across this problem a while ago when looking for a new home for a whole load of domains that I was hosting elsewhere. I run an email discussion list on one of them, which has just under 100 members, where postings can be sporadic - ranging perhaps from one a day up to 20 or more a day when someone raises a "hot" topic. And that 20 may well be within a couple of hours. If we say there are just 5 posts in one hour, that equals 500 messages being sent out by the list server in one hour, but at the first hosting provider I moved to I found that the limit was 150 emails per hour, so that was a disaster, as there's no way that a proper discussion can take place if that kind of limit is imposed. So I started looking around at lots of other hosting providers who provide mailman and without exception ALL the cheaper ones I looked at had a message limit - often between 100 and 150 per hour (although you usually had to search hard to find the small print where this limit was defined). In the end I separated out the one domain concerned and I host that with a totally separate provider (gradwell.net), and have never had any problems. It costs me more than the hosting for all my other domains at WHB put together, but I consider it to be worth it to guarantee a reliable and unthrottled email list service.
I did discover that SOME of the cheaper hosting providers will allow a higher message rate, but usually only if you go for their most expensive dedicated server options and the like - i.e. they're no longer cheap!
Have you raised a ticket about this to see if WHB can offer a solution?
Best wishes,
Adrian

Guys,
Our outbound limit on shared and reseller is 200 an hour. We do not throttle below this. VPS and dedicated offer higher and with VPS, each of your users does get a Cpanel interace - it is like a more powerful reseller account. This would probably be your best option.
That said, we haven't found many email scripts we like. As a company, we use www.verticalresponse.com

When looking at what is offered for the VPS, it is not presented like an advanced reseller account and it does not say that you will retain WHM and cpanel access for your separate accounts.
And, as for the first part, it is a little annoying for you to say that, seeing as I was asking about what amounts to be a small email list.
Vertical response does not appear to support discussion forum style mailing lists.
What are the prices for VPS and how do they compare with the reseller

We've had the 200 limit policy for 3 years and its listed in our terms/AUP.
Prices for the VPS are now on our website.

So, it's still not listed as options for the VPS stuff, but you say it does come with whm and easy management of multiple accounts?
We're currently using the highest level of reseller, iirc, so I am curious to know what changes we'd be facing if we switched to a VPS.

The VPS can come with a number of control panels/operating systems. If you choose Cpanel, then you get all the features of a reseller account and more. Root access means you can create reseller accounts as it's basically like a mini dedicated server.
If you migrated to VPS, we could do the transfer for you. It's a pretty seamless process.
