    Question cpanel change announcement

    I got the following today:

    Hello *******,

In order to protect the security of your website, we recommend that you upgrade the following scripts that were installed via the "Scripts Library" in your cPanel interface:

    - phpBB.0 v2.0.21
    Location: at http://************forum/
    Latest: v2.0.23
I am using a single Forum with PHPBB3.0.4 and this could have the potential to wreck it. When I checked the given link I found this.

I really do want to possibly wipe out my customizations and otherwise break my install.
This is a scary option and it may just be linked to the fact that from 1st January 2009 all support for V2.x ceases. However, I have not had this notification (as yet) to any of my other accounts.

Can one of the Team please tell me more?

    Mark

Upgrading phpbb is usually a painless process, but if you have phpbb 3 already installed, why would you want to downgrade it to phpbb 2? It looks like you may have installed phpbb 2 via the scripts library and manually upgraded it to phpbb 3? Stick with manual upgrade and ignore the scripts library, and you will stay ahead of most security issues.

Read all documentation from phpbb before upgrading. Common mistakes are covered pretty well in the phpbb forums.

I think that when this was a new account I DID do the auto install from the CP. I always do manual updates anyway. Thanks for the info, squinky.
