    Default SSL Certificate Support

I installed an SSL Certificate from Comodo using the SSL/TLS Manager and I can see the Certificate but when I try to go to the HTTPS version of the site I get an error. Anyone know what to do to make the SSL work properly?

Do you have a dedicated IP to install it on?

No, it is shared hosting. Does it have to be a dedicated IP adress?

And boy, you seem to have all the answers. Thanks for what you do.

Yes, you'll need a dedicated IP to "separate" the site from others on the shared hosting server. Open a ticket at https://www.whbsupport.com/ for Billing.

You're welcome. And welcome to the forums. BTW, I like the tree logo on your web site; nicely done.

Thanks Alan. My new eCommerce site will be up once I can figure all this stuff out. It isn't really related to my consulting business but that doesn't matter.

Does this also apply if I want a free (self-signed) certificate for a hoppy site?

Yes, you can create a self-signed cert for your site. You would still need a dedicated IP to make it work, which you can get from WHB Support.

Self-signed certicates can be useful when you need the security of SSL encryption, but don't need a recognizable authority name on the certificate. So, they can be very good for providing secure login to webmail and other site functions, but are less appealing for on-line transactions since customers may want to see a brand name cert issuer which is pre-approved in the browser so there are no warnings.
