Default Webmail easy login

I have a client that needs a easy way to check webmail on his domain. Is there a way or a link so you do not have to go to the cpanel first to log into webmail? If I could just give him a link that he could click on and then enter the user name and password and then it would bring him to Squirrelmail or Horde mail?
Thanks Jeff

That would work great but I get this warning when I try and use it: covcan.com:2096 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
The certificate is only valid for rs4.whbdns.com

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

Just click "OK" or whatever your browser uses to indicate acceptance. It's just a standard warning that the certificate is self-signed. A self-signed cert is just as secure as a purchased cert, but browsers will warn because they don't recognize the issuing authority.

I am using Firefox 3.5 and had to add 2 certificates by hand, one for rs4.whbdns.com:2096 and one for covcan.com:2096. Just clicking ok will not do it with Firefox but it will do it with Chrome.
I am capable of doing this but my client is not that computer smart so I had to find a easier way
The self-signed certificates do not seem to be working.
Thanks

I don't think you understand how self-signed certs work. They are working, which is to say that they are providing secure encryption, which is what they are intended to provide. Browsers will warn the user, because the browser does not recognize the issuing authority. Browsers recognize only the major paid issuers and would naturally not recognize any self-signed issuer.

I understand quite well how they work, what I am saying is it is a lot to ask a customer to try and figure out how to make it work with Firefox. There is no reason to have a self-signed certs to make webmail work. I have many WHM and cpanel accounts with other providers and they do not require this. It is just a added burden on the end customer and more customer service I have to give.

IIRC, I think there is a way to access webmail via unsecured connection, without SSL. That would lack the benefit of encryption, but would enable users to login without using the certificate.

The reason for the self-signed certificate is to provide greater security and privacy.

If there is a way to log in to webmail via unsecured connection, without SSL I would like to know how!!
I understand the greater security and I would suggest that for a business but for the normal user sending jokes back and forth a unsecured connection, without SSL would work fine.

Jeff (All),

Try: http://webmail.yourdomain.com/

Should give you a login prompt and then access to webmail without SSL. Note traffic from website is unencrypted if that is a concern. Change the http to https if you want the secure version.

If you wanted to avoid the warning your can get trusted SSL certs from as little as $30/year and they are quite easy to setup and maintain once you have done it once. Do a search for SSL certs in google and you will find a million places selling them, "Rapid SSL" is one of the cheapest "brands".

Cheers,
Aaron.

PS: I sell SSL certs if you are desperate for somewhere to get one from...

Sorry to say that webmail.yourdomain.com did not work I got this message:
Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server

If I am understanding you correctly Webhostingbuzz would have to get the trusted SSL certs not me as the end user correct?

If webmail.yourdomain.com showed you the Apache Screen this means that the server you are on doesn't have c-names mail.* configured by default.

If when you are trying to access your mail box using the link http://yourdomain.com:2095 you still get the certificate warning this means that a global redirection to SSL encryption for webmail is on on the server. But this can be disabled for your account per your request in a ticket to our technical department.

Unfortunately installing trusted SSL for Webmail, cPanel etc. is possible only on Dedicated Servers and VPSs as the SSL is installed for the whole server rather than a single account.

If you're a little bit knowledgeable about installing server-side apps, you could create your own installation of SquirrelMail. That would allow you and your clients to use it without SSL (although I caution you that insecure webmail is a risk) and you could customize it as you like.

I have used my own installation of SquirrelMail for many years now. I like that I can add plugins and make other adjustments to customize it to our needs, rather than use the standard cPanel release.
