Default IP is Blocked Due to FTP Download

I have just spent over an hour in live chat to only find out I can't download from FTP because I have to fast of an internet connection and the files I am downloading are to small. What a crock.

anna.m: according to the server's logs you've downloaded 300 files within 2 minutes, basially this makes 300 connections for 2 minutes. and as a consequence you are blocked
That is from the live chat. And all I am trying to do is download my WordPress Plugins directory.

    Jeff,

We have generous FTP limits but is your FTP software setup correctly? Which software are you using, and can you post a screen shot of any settings options?

We'll get to the bottom of this for you.

Matt thank you for replying so fast. The above quote was after changing my settings to 2 simultaneous transfers with my concurrent uploads/downloads set to 2.

The issue was I have a very fast internet connection, over 25Mbps down and over 5Mbps up, combined with the fact that I was downloading very small files, mostly php and xml files, caused to many server queries. After almost 2 hours, and after my post here, the support person finally suggested I use SFTP cause it does not have the restricted number of queries.

What upsets me is that had she suggested that after finding out my IP was being blocked when I used FTP I could have saved an over an hour of being in live chat.

    Jeff,

Normally when the FTP client is configured not to create more than 2 connections there are no IP blocking for FTP transfers. However not all FTP clients have explicit option to limit the number of connections. In most FTP clients this option is controlled by the amount of concurrent transfers. But this value in some specific case does not directly limit the amount of connections. The excessive amount of connections can also happen due to peculiarities of clients internet connection.

As far as we can see in your particular case even though the FTP client was configured to 2 transfers the amount of connections from your IP to the server was constantly larger than 2. There is quite an array of reasons for this investigation of which takes time.

We understand that waiting in chats is frustrating. We are sorry it all took so long in your chat session but the supporter needed time to identify and localize the issue. As the result of the analysis performed by the supporter eventually he came up with a solution.
