    Default RAID Rebuild on RSSG2

Is this RAID rebuild being ran as a background process?

I haven't been able to access my sites or my client's sites for two days.

I'm lucky if I can get my email client to connect to download my email.

If it is being ran as a background process it's not worth it. Just shut it down and get the rebuild done as fast as possible. Screw running it as a background processes because we can't access our sites anyway.

As Far as I know I'm also hosted on RSSg2 and I can access my sites fine. Weird.

I just tried two of my sites and a client site.

My main hosting site gave me a 500 Server Error, my personal site loaded after about 30-45 seconds and my clients site loaded after about 30-45 seconds.

Are you experiencing any delay in page/site loading times?

From one of my slowest pages to load due to database access and stuff:

    PHP generated in: 0.17508400
    Second(s)

While maybe its slightly slower than normal, its still very good in my opinion.

Yes, I've been following that thread for the last two days.

I'm going to submit a ticket then since you aren't having any page load issues like I am.

Yep, it's a background process. Unfortunately this is one of our few servers with software RAID, so we've been trying to get the balance between functionality and the RAID restore.

I'm sorry but I'm really getting tired of RAID issues with RSSG2. RAID had to rebuild less than one month ago and here we are again.

During this rebuild process my sites and email are essentially down for 5 days straight.

This is truly unacceptable. Maybe you guys should consider a different RAID array setup like RAID 5 or something instead of RAID 1.

Yes I agree with you rbgivens. None of my web sites are responding right now. Zilch nadda nothing at all.

I think it is time to ditch this software RAID and implement a hardware solution. Something that is more reliable. Twice in less than month is a rather high failure rate for professional hosting.

You're right on the money MyWebs.

It's one thing for a small time single hosting package server but for a hosting server designed to be for resellers we need something more reliable.

I honestly don't know what to tell my clients.

In the last 30 days my sites and my client's sites have only been up for approximately 80% without any issues. That's a long way away from 99.9%

This is ridiculous. Actually, it is beyond ridiculous. As previously stated, this is the second RAID rebuild in less than a month, and now a COMPLETE outtage due to this reboot? Additionally, a reboot only takes a minute or two, and all sites have been offline for what... 20 minutes now?

You CANNOT offer reseller hosting packages, expect us to buy them, sign clients up for 'our' hosting, and have this sort of horrific downtime. It is beyond unacceptable. Software RAID in this environment is bordering upon stupidity, let alone sheer incompetence. And whatever this ghostly main branch power failure is, it is quite apparent that the required redundancy for power supply to this server is non-existent.

This needs not only to remedied immediately, it needs to never happen again. I cannot begin to express to you people (WHB) how much heat we resellers receive from our clients when their sites are down.

    Fix this situation immediately, PLEASE.

And furthermore, we need to have some sort of back up plan in effect, so that when/if this does happen, our sites can be up and running within minutes, not hours or days. Even during the RAID rebuild, the sites are basically worthless, with such poor performance that it is more frustrating than it is worth.

Too many outtages, too frequently. As a LONG time client, I must tell you that I am considering pulling everyone of my clients and leaving WHB, not because I want to, but because in the long run, the reputation of MY business has to take precedence here, and sadly it appears that WHB does not have that same concern. I doubt that I am alone in that contemplation or line of reasoning.

20 minutes? Try 1 hour and 15 minutes as I write this.

Almost 7 hours downtime now. I'm losing money here and I can't get my email even with it hosted on Google Apps for domains since WHB isn't serving up the MX records.

It's pure madness. And they've now posted a thread stating that "most" servers are back up... only a "small" number (6) are still down. Wanna venture a guess at how many sites those SIX servers are (supposed to be) hosting? Nice to know that they consider that to be an acceptable failure rate. And how in the f*$% do they not have a backup plan in place for situations like this, especially for the resellers? I've started a new thread regarding our dilema.

8.5 hours later my sites are finally working again. But for how long? With the RAID problem still needing to be fixed most likely.

I know for a fact that some of my emails were lost during this too. A very important email I was expecting would have arrived about 4 hours ago. Nothing.

I really hope WHB implements a hardware RAID controller very soon and ditches this software RAID controller. One more RAID failure and I'm looking for new hosting. Twice within 30 days is enough for me. 3rd time is the charm.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconveniences this issue has caused you.
RAID is still rebuilding on the server, the current state of this process is 64%.
We can not estimate an exact time frame for this process, but have taken all possible measures to speed up this procedure.
As soon as RAID rebuilt is completed, all the services will be enabled again.
All updates on this issue are posted in the following forum thread: http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...html#post21502.

Well, i guess that my patience is coming to the end... my reseller hosting account (and of course, accounts from all my customers) went down from friday at night and they are still having problems with email and web access... is this acceptable? I think not... when i moved my accounts from another hosting company to here was more for suggestion from some client of mine, but in the old company, they never went down for more than 4-5 hours... and with you... almost 72!!!

I think that customers affected by this big problem (and yes, is a big problem not a issue as you keep telling) need to be repared in some way... since i´m losing 2 customers if the server is still down for today...

What are your solutions for this? Thanks

I must agree... this is, as I have stated in my other posts... RIDICULOUS!

RAID rebuild for THREE DAYS now?!!?

All hosted sites are sluggish at best during this, and clients are PISSED, justifiably so.

This is painful, costly, and embarrassing.

Matt R ... I accept your offer to move my site (parrotheadhosting.com) and all associated clients to a different server that does NOT have software RAID. Please do so ASAP... presuming of course that it is a server that is not a step down in speed, number of cores, etc.

    Thank you.

I agree with you ParrotHeadPC, we need to know if move our reseller accounts to the hardware RAID solution will keep the performance in memory, processors and the other features that we paid...

Any response from administrators? Thx a lot.
