Default Why Should I have to Upgrade?

I have been with WHB for almost a year now. I have 2 reseller accounts, a RLite and a RGold. I got these accounts back when you were offering a coupon giving 75.00% off the one time & recurring cost. Needless to say a great deal.

I am now using a WordPress Plugin for backing up my blogs that requires ZipArchive. When I submited a support ticket asking that ZipArchive be enabled on my accounts I was told:

we don't have ZipArchive module on the server you are hosting. You may want upgrade to the new hosting plan with this module enabled.
So I went to look at what hosting plan this might be and I see that I have been getting cheated out of disk space and bandwidth as the current RGold plan comes with 100GB of Disk Space and 3.000GB Bandwidth. My RGold account only has 75GB Disk Space and 1,000GB Bandwidth. Now at this point in time I am not near my current quota on either so this is not currently an issue.

However, why should I have to upgrade, loosing my discount, just to be able to access ZipArchive when it can easily be installed on my server? That is unless this is one way you get folks out of old coupons.

    Jeff,

If you buy a laptop from Dell 2 years ago on a special offer, do you feel cheated when 2 years down the line the specification has increased but the current set of special offers are not as good?

In any technology industry, product or service, as technology advances then the products and services on offer do so as well. Web hosting is just the same. You are free to upgrade at any time and its easy enough to find some coupon/discount codes for our plans.

    Dear Jeff,

As for enabling Zip module for PHP, our technicians will perform it during the weekend. You won't need to upgrade. Please continue discussing this issue in the ticket ZLX-515617 with our technicians.

Sorry Matt but web hosting is nothing like buying a computer. When you buy a computer it is a physical product when you buy hosting it is a service.

If I sign a contract for a fixed hourly rate with an accountant and the tax laws change I expect the accountant to implement the changes to my tax returns. Same with hosting when a host upgrades the package I am on I expect those changes to pertain to my account as well.

As it stands now you are basically saying that even though we are under the same plan as those paying $34.95/month because we are paying much less because of a coupon we are being put on inferior servers.

If you hire an accountant to help you with your tax returns, and then ask him to also handle investments, do you expect him to still do so on the same budget? Sometimes, like with this case, a interim solution can be reached. For example, the accountant may chat with you about investments over lunch, so he doesn't have to charge you for official work. Or, as in this case, a technician can install a module on your existing account. Keep in mind, though, that eventually, you will likely find yourself in a position where it is better to upgrade, than keep submitting tickets. If you take your accountant to lunch every day for "free advice", at some point, it is more cost effective to just hire him to manage the investments! Does that make sense?
