    Lightbulb browsers not refreshing

This is so annoying - just built a website and obtained a hosting package with whb, but the amended files I have just uploaded are not showing up, despite refreshing the browser - using firefox and IE - have uploaded using the file manager and ftb client.

Maybe it is me - I am going crazy!

    Dear jennym,

Please make sure that you uploaded your files to your webroot - public_html folder.

Also you should mind that for your site to be displayed properly its main page should have a name of a index.html or index.php kind.

It may also be the DNS propagation issue, it may take up to 72 hours. So if you uploaded everything properly, you may view your content using the link of a http://serverIP/~username (where serverIP is the IP of your hosting server and the username is your cPanel username).

I have made sure that firefox is configured to 'browser.cache.check_doc.frequency to 1 - also IE to refesh on every page load. But this does not work.

I purchased a Lite package last Friday (and delighted so far with it that I'm about to upgrade to the silver).

I am uploading to the 2nd domain name (public_html folder/www.blahblah.com/index.html)

So I will sit tight, despite 72 hours just expiring - or should I bother the techies?

Just want to make sure it's not me and my pc!

    Dear jennym,

As far as you purchased your package last Friday, it can hardly be a DNS propagation issue.

In order to resolve your problem, please submit a ticket to our technical department at https://whbsupport.com.

You may wish to also try CTRL + F5 to be positive the cause isn't a browser cache issue. I have seen this be the cause more than once.

    Thanks for your responses

Have had a reply from a technical support team ticket,

"Site 'www.bedfordworld.com' works correctly from our end. Please specify your problem."
bedford-build.com is the main domain name to the Lite Hosting package that I have purchased, bedfordworld is the secondary name.

bedford-build.com is just one page at the moment directing people to bedfordworld.com. In turn bedfordworld.com has only one page with a link to a private directory (my daughter's wedding images and videos).

It is very odd as the web pages are not being updated in the browsers, some in firefox do, but in IE, some pages are being shown that are are several 'editions' back.

All the pages are 'there' - but they are not showing the latest versions of the page. The pages have both been uploaded by the file manager and by ftp.

I can't see the date and time of the upload in the file manager, but in the ftp client, the directory shows the most recent 'edition' of the file. It is like my browsers are not being refreshed. I'm wondering if this my pc - but this doesn't happen to my main website hosted elsewhere (which I'm moving to whb soon).

The problem is probably just a little tweek, but I wish I could find it! Have also F5'ed with no success!

    Thanks for your help.

For example, three pages were uploaded last night (20th April, I am in Spain which is +1 GMT) and I have refreshed the pages many times including using the F5 button - but the browsers are still not showing the version uploaded last night.

In Explorer the 'properties information' shows the page was modified on the 18th April! Firefox tells me the page was modified on 19 April 2010 13:06:55 (both prior versions of the page).

    Isn't this rediculous???

Although I have managed to encourage Firefox and IE to show some correct versions of the pages.

It is all very odd and frustrating.

    Hi,

Let's try to clarify some details. Which files exactly have you changed? We can see, for example, that index.html file of bedfordworld.com site was changed on 20:26 Apr 20 by server's time. Its size is 755 bytes. Does it have the correct size?

It would be really useful for us if you send us a screenshot of the page which was not updated to the latest version. This will help us to see if both you and we see the same page or different pages, and judging from that we will find out if this is a server-side issue or a problem on your local PC. You can post the screenshot in your existing ticket with us.

    We are waiting you.

    Hi Eugene.

Phew problem has now been resolved!

Received this email from your whb technical:
From the first sight one of the possible reason of such behavior is Apache "FileETag" (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#fileetag)
directive which is enabled with "All" switch by default on the cPanel-based server.

We have disabled it. Could you please re-check the issue from your side and
let us know whether the issue still persists or not.
All now works beautifully! Many thanks!

Beware that some ISP's cache pages and images so that sometimes what seems to be a browser cache issue is merely you seeing your ISP's cached page.

Thanks Colin, I knew there was something silly going wrong as this hasn't happened to me before. This was one of those problems that really tests your patience.
