Default WHB data protection is not that great.

In all honesty if I had made a complete backup like the terms and conditions fine print had stated, it would have been ok.

I have all my web hosting with Web Hosting Buzz, they provide a lot of functionality, bandwith and storage space for not very much money.

But ... just recently WHB had a serious HDD failure on the server that all my data was hosted on (shared8). Everything that I had been chipping away on for the two and and a half years just disapeared.

I contacted support and they had made a backup just a little while before. However it turns out that they backed up a big load of empty space over the previous backup (the HDD had failed at this point so it just read as a blank disk) ... and they only keep one backup.

Even a backup that was a 3 months old would have been fine, but i've been told that there is only one backup.

So I've lost everything. I have some rather old backups of the blogs and comments but that is about 2% of everything that was there. I now need to start from scratch again.

I cannot stress how dissapointed I am with this!

Sorry to hear it. Personally, I never depend on anyone else to back up for me. I download my db daily (via FTP script), and do complete full site backups once a month (and download them!).

American Eagle Outfitters learns a painful service provider lesson

Perhaps it will make you feel better to know you aren't alone, as this bit of news today shows. They did everything right - a backup of the backup and a disaster recovery service, and still went down for eight days.
"You should never give up ownership or responsibility or governance of what's going on with your data to your service provider partners," said Roberta Witty, an analyst at research firm Gartner Inc. "It's still your data. It requires a fair amount of due diligence to make sure third-party service providers have all the processes and procedures in place to ensure they meet your recovery needs."

Why was this thread moved to support?

This is not a support item, i have gone through support and nothing can be done about my situation, i accept that.

This is my review of Web Hosting Buzz, Please move it back to "Web Hosting Buzz Reviews"

Still no reply. Please move this thread back to "WebHostingBuzz Reviews"

Or would it be easier if I created another thread in the reviews section?

These last 2 posts can be removed once you have moved it back.
    Thanks.

A review is a review, designed for one off posts. Some discussion occurred in this thread so it got moved.

I also think it is pretty unfair given you openly admit to not having read our terms and conditions to write a review of this manner. You should be doing backups of all your data; hosted with us, on your local pc and any other crucial data on a regular basis.

Sorry, I guess that makes it my fault. But come on - I agree it's not a 'review' so much as a 'complaint'. A review would cover several topics and might only remind a reader of backup and restore policies and prices.

And it's not like anyone deleted anything. It's just moved to a different forum where it's still visible.

Below is just a small list of other "reviews" that discussion has occured in which are also in the "reviews" section. If this is your policy then you should move them too.

    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...this-week.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...-problems.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...-reseller.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...t-yet-met.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...years-now.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...xperience.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...mpression.html
    http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/forum/...xperience.html

So your arguement about it being moved because it wasn't a one off post is a little weak.

But to be fair i will repost a review that does offer more rounded views.
