If you got this one today you got a seriously watered down version of the original. Yours only contained a .zip attachment, which would require an extra layer of operator involvement. The original apparently contained .exe files.? Not sure but this article seems to imply that.
Of course, "McDonalds" and other brand name viruses have been around the internet for ages in various forms.
I suspect that they packaged the .eze in a zip archive to get it to more recipients. Many mail systems block .exe attachments, but they pass through unimpeded in a zip file.
True, there are plenty of spam/virus scams based on large brands. They continue because lots of people fall for them.
