    Default What is uptime?

Uptime is the percentage of time that a web site is working. For example, if some host has an uptime average of 99.86%, this means that your site will be down for a total about 1 hour each month. We monitor uptime of customer websites of many web hosts and we display this data on the host's details page. Some hosts also offer "uptime guarantees" but this is not as valuable as it might appear

Uptime means the time in percentage of the month that your web site is up and accessible to the web. Usually this is stated in terms of a percentage. If a web host quarantees 99% uptime, this means you get :-

24 hours x 30 days x 99% = 712.8 hours uptime per month out of 720 hours a month, ie not more than 7 hours 12 minutes or 432 minutes downtime per month.

Uptime means the time in which an machine is functioning, and downtime is the time when it is not functioning. And if you have a website then you should check its security and should do static analysis tools comparison, so that you can find flaws in your website.
