I'll say it again, I think the number of domains offered for free is VERY generous. Just because you cannot have them all at once...
Remember, if you are buying a physical object you can do whatever you want with it. Hosting is more like a lease or a rent of services.
If you LEASE a business end printer or copier, with some sort of service plan, you can be absolutly sure there will be a limit to the number of pages you can produce in a month. After that there are extra charges.
Maybe that lease/service plan includes a toner each month.. If you want to buy more that's up to you.
That said... It may not make sense to you, but it is how the offer was presented.
A lot of things don't make sense.
