What is SEM?

SEM is Search Engine Marketing. It is the process of marketing your content on the search engines using either a free organic listing or PPC ads, Pay Per Click.

To get a top ten free organic listing on a search engine you will need to study and use SEO techniques to rank well. PPC listings are much easier to get since your paying for the placement of your ads. I don't know much about the PPC side of things as I choose to learn SEO and go the free route which is often more effective when you look at click through rates as compared to PPC ads. I do know that your web page will need to have good content and thus a high quality rating or you will be paying more for your PPC ads.

It would be impossible to begin to explain how SEO and PPC works in a forum post. Google is your best friend now.

as per my interaction with google team based in Hyderabad, they will be working on client account to research on keywords for about a week or more and then you are on your own to build article/articles based on those keywords... does that make any sense???

SEM (search engines marketing) also include the website design which effect how the site appear in search engines. Including the page title, meta description and etc.

Its all about getting your website and business into the search engines, and get the targeted users in return. All these include how your website appear in search engines (organic listing or paid PPC listing).
